BCAP Rule Changes Announced

The Biomass Crop Assistance Program (BCAP) is a federal program to encourage the production of renewable energy through the use of incentives.  The Farm Service Agency has published a fact sheet which provides a summary of the reinstated program.

In addition, we are working with the DNR to ensure that wood harvested from family forest lands by a Minnesota Certified Master Logger continues to be recognized as eligible material in the BCAP program.
Safety Grant Program

The Minnesota Department of Labor & Industry's Safety Grants Program awards funds, with a dollar-for-dollar match up to $10,000 to qualifying employers for projects designed to reduce the risk of injury or illness to their employees.

This grant program has been used by loggers to help purchase equipment.  Applications and an application "cheat sheet" are available online.  To increase your application's odds for consideration - keep these tips in mind.

Public Concerns Registration Process

You should be familiar with the Minnesota Forest Resources Council's (MFRC) Public Concerns Registration Program (PCRP).  The PCRP is a way for citizens to register concerns they have about specific timber harvesting and forest management practices they see in Minnesota.

The PCRP educates citizens about forest management practices. However, the MFRC cannot impose punitive measures through the process.  Therefore, the Minnesota Forest Resources Council (MFRC) will not resolve disputes between parties over contractual or legal issues regarding forest management activities.

Landowners, loggers and forest managers also benefit in several ways.  They become more aware of public concerns pertaining to their land or work, learn more about best management practices (BMPs) for forestry, and establish stronger communication channels with each other and concerned citizens.  Insights gleaned about the public's concerns is also useful for identifying future logger education programs.

If a concern is registered regarding a harvest you were a part of, you can expect someone from the Minnesota Forest Resources Council (MFRC) will contact you to find out more about the situation.  When appropriate, the MFRC distributes education materials to all parties associated with the concern.  The 2010 PCRP Annual Report provides more infromation about the program and recent investigations.
