When Was the Last Time You Tailgated With Your Crew?

The Midwest ENERGY Association has compiled a great checklist for conducting effective tailgate meetings designed to help ensure the safety of your crew and others.  As you plan and organize your next safety meeting, use the checklist and remember to:

Talk about the job

Assign specific tasks

Identify hazards

Let the crew know what to expect

Generate alternative plans

Allow time to complete the job

Think about the details of routine jobs

Evaluate crew member's understanding of their responsibilities

MLEP submits comments to the MFRC on Minnesota's Forest Management Guidelines

The Minnesota Logger Education Program submitted comments to the Minnesota Forest Resources Council (MFRC) regarding the Timber Harvesting and Forest Management Guidelines.  Our comments were based on the direct input we received from loggers and foresters who completed the FMG survey.  A total of 225 surveys were completed.  Additional input was also collected during two focus group sessions.

Thank you to everyone who completed a survey and participated in the focus groups.  Your comments and insight provided essential information!
"Minnesota Forest Resources" and "Public Stumpage Review" Reports Available

The DNR's annual report on Minnesota's Forest Resources is now available.  The report contains answers to frequently asked questions about Minnesota's forest resources such as current conditions, trends in forest resources and forest resource industrial use.   Loggers, foresters, natural resource managers, planners, people employed in forest industry and forest policy makers will find items of interest in the report.

The Public Stumpage Report contains average stumpage prices received by all Minnesota public agencies in 2008 for the following product classifications: sawtimber, bolts, pulpwood, and fuelwood. Information presented may be useful for determining the total volume and value of stumpage sold and for comparing relative volumes and values of sawtimber and pulpwood sold during the reporting period by public agencies in Minnesota.
