New Reporting Rules for Lump-Sum Timber Sales
|
|
New rules
for the reporting of lump-sum timber sales went into effect on May 28,
2009. The IRS now requires anyone who sells timber on a lump-sum
basis be issued a form 1099. This new rule does
not change the reporting requirements for pay-as-cut, which also
requires the issuance of a 1099. Questions regarding the change
should be discussed with your accountant or tax adviser. |

MN Logging Claim Characteristics 2003-2008
|
|
The Minnesota Department of Labor & Industry has published a summary of the worker's compensation claim characteristics
in the logging industry from 2003-2008. During this time period,
there were 80 indemnity claims. Forty-eight percent of the claims
had fewer than five weeks of temporary total disability. Falls,
overextention and being struck by an object were the top three events
leading to a claim. As your operation moves into winter, remember
to take time to discuss the importance of being safe.
